Friday Happiness

taken from here

Hello Friday, I have missed you. So happy that the weekend is finally here. No big plans this weekend...after last weekend's big party and next weekend being MY birthday, I'm looking forward to taking it easy this weekend. Pilates will definitely be part of my plans as well as a monster run, maybe some shopping (more like SHOPPING FOR SPRING IS A MUST!), a family dinner tonight, boyfriend time, and then I leave for a quick trip to Seattle on Sunday night. And by quick trip I mean I'll be there for literally 24 hours. Crazy, insane, unreal. Yes, the adjectives can go on and on. I have a cover shoot with a famous soccer star, who shall remained unnamed (can you guess who??), on Monday and will be taking the red eye back on Monday night. I think I'll be flying across the country longer than I'll be on land. Oy!

Happiness...

Wardrobe Wednesday (On a Thursday? Sure Why Not?)

Silly me, I forgot yesterday was Wednesday. Guess that's what happens when you are a crazy, insane person at work. Actually, yesterday was fun, so I can't complain to much. We celebrated a co-worker's birthday and went to the Monkey Bar for lunch. It was so delicious and I highly recommend checking it out if you are ever in NYC and need a swanky place to eat or grab cocktails. It's definitely a hotspot for the publishing crowd (read up on the restaurant, and you'll understand why).

Since I knew we would be heading out for lunch (instead of sitting at our desks like we normally do), I decided to wear a silky printed Chelsea Flower dress, black tights, and my black suede loafers. It was nice to change up the pace a little with a dress in exchange for my jeans.

Trendy Nails

I'm a nail-a-holic, as you know, and am obsessed with getting my nails done (and the occasional DIY mani at home). I'm usually pretty conservative with my nails, keeping my fingers and toes all matchy-matchy, without any designs or crazy trends. I did fall into the glitter nail craze though back in the fall (and am still utterly obsessed with it btw), and have recently tried the Sally Hansen stick on mani--which, I've become a huge fan of!

I'm in desperate need of a pedicure (the ocean and sand from the Miami photo shoot that I was just on, did a number on my once pretty teal nails) and have been toying with the idea of doing something really fun and springy this time around. Here are some inspiration manis that I've kind of fallen in love with...which one should I choose?
don't love the color, but i love the stripes on one nail!

nude and mint...cant go wrong with that

Peachy Keen

Color is everywhere this spring (seriously though, when is it not? we act like color is such a trend, when in reality, not so much). A few weeks ago I did a little round up of my some of my favorite mint green pieces, and today I'm feeling a little peachy. The blush color is really a great color for all skin types if kept in the orange family...go a little to light and you run into nude tones, which can be tricky to pull off. I think it looks great paired with similar pastel colors, and also looks great when paired with a contrasting color like turquoise or of course, black. Here are some of my fav peach pieces this season.

Cheers to 50 Years

My mom is a very special person, and last night 30 of her closest friends proved that when they came to celebrate her 50th birthday. The actual "big" day isn't until the 13th, but we all drank lots of wine, ate lots of yummy food, and shared lots of great memories in honor of her milestone birthday.

Since my mom hates surprises, she decided to plan her own party so that we wouldn't be able to throw her one (in true mother fashion). She's the best cook (I dare you to disagree with me), and since everyone knows that it is her passion, she decided to have the party at a cooking school where we were all a part of making our delicious meal. We had a salad to start (we candied our own pecans...so amazing!), wild mushroom soup, asparagus risotto, and a choice of beef wellington or salmon in a puff pastry. For dessert we had bananas flambĂ©, and of course no party would be complete without cupcakes, so we had a variety of Crumbs cupcakes. Pure amazingness.

The night was a total success, and I am so thankful to everyone who came. I know my mom had a ball, and appreciates each and every one of her friends. She deserved to be the center of attention last night, and she looked beautiful as the hostess. Love you mom! Happy early birthday! Cheers to 50 more amazing years!

Friday Happiness

taken from here

It is yet another gloomy day here in the city. Sort of depressing actually. I'm ready for some sunshine, that's for sure! Just have to think happy thoughts to get through this day!

This weekend will be full of fun things. My brother comes home for his spring break tonight. I'm excited to see him (and go to one of our fav Italian restaurants...they have the BEST balsamic dressing--I swear by it!). Sunday is when all the fun begins though. We are celebrating a very special birthday...my mom's 50th! Her birthday isn't until the 13th (3 days before mine!), but we are celebrating early with friends on Sunday night. I don't want to give away too many details (a blog post will come on Monday with all of the fun!), but I'm really looking forward to eating good food, drinking some delicious wine, and having a great time celebrating my mom!

What are your weekend plans?

Springtime Gems

I've been feeling a little gloomy since I got back from Miami. Probably because I left sunny, 85 degree weather, for mid-40s and rainy skies here in New York. After being able to wear short shorts, flip-flops, and sun dresses for a whole week, my mind is stuck in colorful summer world, not winter.

Since I'm feeling like I need a little color boost (and since my birthday is coming up...hint, hint), I decided to put together a little wish list of yummy jewels that I'd love to sport this spring. Clearly, color is the name of the game (I'm neon obsessed, can you tell?)...and anchors too.
