Friday Happiness

I'm not sure about you, but this week was a tough one. Work was crazy and life was crazy, but we can all breathe a sigh of relief because it's Friday, and it's time to celebrate the weekend! Tomorrow is filled with lots of "me" time (i.e. yoga, a mani/pedi, and some shopping), and then I'll be celebrating my bff's 25th birthday! Sunday will be more low key and I'm hoping to spend the day outside working on my photography skills! What's on your agenda this weekend?

Wardrobe Wednesday: Camo Glam

I'm having another chartreuse moment today, but this time I paired the bold color with my favorite camo pants. I've posted looks with these pants before, but today they're feeling super springy and fresh. I love the way the yellow and green compliment each other, giving my look a fun vibe, that screams "I'm ready for summer!"

Afternoon in the Sun

I always have images of white sandy beaches, tan lines, and pretty pedicured toes on the brain, but with summer quickly approaching, these things seem to be more repeated thoughts. After seeing this editorial in T Style last week, I've never wanted to jet off to a private island more in my life. Dear Caribbean, I'm coming for ya.

Chartreuse

When I was getting dressed this morning, I originally had on all black...the New York uniform. But after staring at myself in the mirror for a few minutes, unsatisfied, I decided to throw in a little pop of color to start my Monday off right. First I had on hot pink, but my tan from Miami has faded, so that wasn't working for me. Next in line was white, snoozefest. And then a little neon peaked out from my drawer and I knew that today was going to be a chartreuse day.

Yellow is a hard color for me to pull off, especially now that my hair is lighter, but there's something really amazing about a good solid chartreuse. With the right amount of neon glow, it's the perfect way to add some life to a boring Monday look!

Friday Happiness

Back when May first started I had this huge sigh of relief that the month didn't have any serious plans, and I could actually be around town and hang out a bit. Little did I know how quickly my weekends would fill up. This weekend, I'll be packing my bags to head back to my hometown, but hopefully first, a little pit stop for some pizza (which I've been craving since Tuesday). Tomorrow is a busy day, filled with dance rehearsals and a dinner date with family from out-of-town, and then Sunday will be all about my amazing mom, and we'll be heading up to Connecticut to see my 98-year-old great-grandmother. A packed weekend is an understatement. Let's hope I can come out alive on the other side! Cheers to a fab weekend everyone!

Ask E.Jean

I was flipping through the pages of this month's Elle the other day, when I got to my favorite part of the magazine: Ask E.Jean. If you aren't familiar with E.Jean, become acquainted. She's amazing, and one of the reasons why I subscribe to Elle in the first place. I love her column, and her witty responses always leaving me thinking, "Now why didn't I think of that?"

One particular piece of advice that I connected to this time, was when a reader asked E.Jean is she had any advice for a young girl who just landed her first great job in the city. I don't necessarily agree with all of her advice (i.e. #10 & #11), but hey that's why she call it "15 Totally Indispensable Rules-With Which You May Totally Dispense":

1. Make mistakes as quickly as you can, and move on.

2. Don't worry is you meet a man who is too good for you.

3. If you're having trouble choosing between two paths, take the one that's more life enhancing, even if it's more dangerous.

4. When out for dinner with the girls, slather butter on your bread and declare: "The New York Times says, 'Overweight people live longer.'"

5. Dress how you wish to be dealt with.

6. Speak up for the helpless.

7. If you tweet that you're having a bad day, you will have a bad day.

8. Never waste time looking for a job when you can invent your job.

9. Gaze up at the Milky Way. It will put your tiny apartment into perspective.

10. It's not when you're relaxing on a beach that life is best--it's when you're pushing yourself to the limit.

11. Forget the driveling lunatics who are advising you to "declutter." If Alexander Fleming's lab hadn't been so untidy, he's never have discovered penicillin.

12. If have an affair with a spiritual dude, it will end with him asking for money.

13. Laugh at the girls who carry handbags as status symbols. Everyone knows it's the shoes.

14. The creation of the world happens every morning when you get out of bed.

15. When you're at last certain that the guy you've met is "the one," you'll be wrong 87 percent of the time.

Wardrobe Wednesday: Mixed Prints

If you're an avid Fitness Mag reader, you'll soon find in the June issue that this skirt and shoe combo looks familiar. It is, in fact, the exact same look, except I traded a printed sweater for a knotted leather pocketed tee and a denim jacket...I Marla-ized it a bit. It was a super comfy outfit, but still made me look put together, and I have to brag a bit...I got lots of compliments. Yesterday was def a good wardrobe day ;)

Linked Up

This week has gotten off to a rough start, as I'm fighting yet another sinus infection. Hoping my meds will kick and and get rid of this mess, but until then, here are somethings that are making forget that I need to have a tissue box with me at all times...for a few seconds, anyway.

1. Tommy Hil has a capsule collection which is focused around the surf life. It's calling my name. (nytimes.com)

2. Slightly in love with this poppy bag for my new camera. What do you think? (nordstrom.com)

3. Beauty 101. (refinery29.com)

4. I'm a Thought Catalog addict, but this might be one my my favorite posts to date. #4 is something I need to be better at, but #5 & #7 are totally appreciated. (thoughtcatalog.com)

5. I've been having dreams about this skirt ever since I saw it in the store on Saturday. That's a sign I should get it, right? (jcrew.com)

Friday Happiness

This marathon of a week is finally over, and I couldn't be happier. This is the first weekend in a while where I won't be running and logging crazy miles, where I won't be traveling, and where I'll be able to do some personal maintenance (aka finally getting my highlights touched up--so long overdue), hang out with friends, and I'll be able to actually enjoy some chill time. May is shaping up to be a pretty busy month, so I'm taking advantage of this weekend and I'm looking forward to relaxing! Cheers to a fab--and warm!--weekend!

Ahoy!

I recently stumbled upon this editorial from the May issue of Vogue Paris, and immediately fell in love. Anyone who knows me, knows that I'm a total nautical freak, and can't live without anything that has to sailboats, anchors, nautical rope, and of course the beach/open water (ironically though, I get sea sick..hmmm). These gorgeous pics make me want to set sail (no destination required), so I can have the salty air in my hair and a little sun kissed skin. And of course so I can wear nautical stripes and a braided belt and totally look the part.

Wardrobe Wednesday: Sporty Chic

When I first arrived down in DC last weekend, I walked into my hotel room to find a goodie bag filled with all things Nike (obviously) waiting me for on my bed. One of my favorite things that I got was this awesome track & field tee, that I've been living in ever since. I've been throwing it on when I get home from work with sweats to run errands in and to bum around in, but thought it would look cute knotted up with a pencil skirt and heels for the office. Guess that's the bonus of working for Fitness Magazine...

Hot Right Now

1.  I promise you, Sophia Webster will become a fixture in your fashion vocabulary, if she isn't already. I'm loving her creative shoe vibe, and am lusting over these pink heels

2. Wanna know my secret to staying tan after my Miami glow fades? Dr. Dennis Gross glow pads. Life changing.

3. French girls have the cutest style. If you can't beat 'em, join 'em.

4. The Great Gatsby is my all-time favorite book, and the 1920s are my favorite time period. Dresses inspired by both? Right up my alley.

5. Bikini So Teeny. 'Nuff said.

6. I got this candle as a birthday gift, and now I don't want my apartment to smell like anything but vanilla and oakmoss. Might be buying out all of these from Urban Outfitters.

7. I'm loving anything with a leather sleeve or trim. This top is no exception.

8. Bralettes layered under floaty tees might just be my new obsession and spring go-to look.

#WERUNDC

I mentioned in Friday's post that I was heading down to Washington, DC to run in the Nike Women's Half Marathon. It was the first time they were holding the race down there, and the entire weekend was filled with lots of fun activities and events. Since I was there as part of the media team, I got to experience all the amazing things first hand, and got to spend some time with other awesome editors and bloggers. We took DC by storm, and really got to see all that the city has to offer. I totally recommend taking a weekend trip down to the nation's capitol if you ever have a chance. The food is amazing (Founding Farmer's, Old Ebbitt Grill, and The Occidental are my restaurant recs!), the sites are gorgeous, and it's such an active city--so many people were out riding bikes, jogging, playing soccer and volleyball, and of course, running half marathons :).

Naturally, I documented my weekend through photos. Here's a visual diary for you:
-race course & number-

-ran two half marathons in two weeks and felt awesome!-

-hanging out at the reflecting pool-

-cross the finish line and get a little blue box? sure, why not!-

Friday Happiness

Happy last Friday in April! Can't believe how fast this month has flown by. I've been so consumed with traveling and training for half marathons this month, that April totally blew past me. It's a little reminder that I need to enjoy each moment, and live my life one day at a time.

That being said, I'm super excited to head down to Washington, D.C. this weekend for a fun weekend of half marathon events. I'll be running the Nike Women's Half (check out the post I wrote for Fitness Magazine), and I'm so ready to crush another 13.1 miles. I'm looking forward to checking out such an iconic city, and spending some quality time with my dad, who will be my cheering squad this weekend!

Happy weekend!

Madewell

When coming out of hibernation (yes my pale skin, wooly sweaters, and riding boot wearing days are considered just that), I always get a little anxious about what I'm going to wear when the warm weather sets in. I stand in front of my closets with what I would imagine to be a pretty blah expression, uninspired by the t-shirts and sundresses hanging in front of me. Don't get me wrong, some of those dresses are my favorite pieces in my wardrobe (I dream about them all winter long!), and c'mon you can never go wrong with a t-shirt, but you know that feeling of wanting something new to liven the bunch? Yea, that happens almost every. single. day. Seriously. It does. So then I go through a phase where I get addicted to putting things in my virtual carts online but never commit to actually making a purchase. It's a real problem.

But this time was different. After convincing myself that I've been working my butt off and I deserve some new spring goodies (you can imagine how much arm twisting I had to do...ha!), I bit the bullet and ordered a few things from Madewell. Here are some of the things I was thinking about...but ended up ordering these sandals, this tee, and a tank similar to this top (tank is no longer available) instead.

Wardrobe Wednesday: Pops of Neon

Lately, I've been veering towards wearing black, white, and a little bit of a neutral color scheme, but after spending all last week in Miami, I caught the summer bug and now all I want to do is wear light, gauzy fabrics in fun poppy colors that show off my tan. Unfortunately for me, New York hasn't gotten the "we're all over winter" memo and the gloomy weather we had yesterday was a major bummer. To try and keep my Miami vibe going, I added some serious pops of color to my look by pairing fun bright shoes (mine are from last year but here is a similar style), with one of my favorite necklaces from Spike the Punch.
