Splurge: Miu Miu

Here at the magazine we working on our Nov/Dec issue. It's so crazy to be thinking about holiday gifts and sequin party dresses during the summer, but in the magazine industry we work so far in advance that it is inevitable!

I was on a photo shoot last week for our holiday beauty story and we shot tons of fun sequin dresses and sparkly jewelry. In keeping with the glittery theme I decided to show you these Miu Miu shoes that are insanely major. Definitely a splurge item though. $890!! Crazy! But I do love them and can totally picture these with a hot LBD for NYE. Wow, I don't think I'm ready to make plans for that just yet. I think I'll just sit and lust over them for now...

Taste the Rainbow

How amazing has this weather been? After all the craziness that Irene brought us, I am happy to say that things are starting to get back to normal. With that in mind, I have to share this amazing and cheerful recipe with you that I found on the O'Neill blog. Trying to figure out a good occasion to make it for...anyones birthday coming up?? Such a cute alternative to cupcakes or a traditional birthday cake. I'm not a huge cake lover myself...unless it is red velvet with cream cheese frosting...but if it is made from a box (i particularly like betty crocker) I'm all over it. Sad, but true. Once I do make it I'll be sure to post!

Oh Irene...

So Hurricane Irene came and went this weekend. Hope everyone on the East Coast is safe. I was lucky enough to not get flooded or lose power, but I know tons of people who were stuck in the dark yesterday and who had buckets of water to remove from their basements. Definitely not a good time, but thankfully it wasn't worse. I am home from work today because the trains are down and I have no way of getting back into the city...bummer. Kind of enjoying my day working from home though. I can lounge in yoga pants and tank, respond to emails, and do some cleaning/organizing. And I also get to work from my brandy new  macbook :). And now that Irene is gone, we've finally got some beautiful sunshine...might have to sit outside and enjoy this today. Happy Monday everyone!

Friday Happiness

taken from here

We have two weekends left of summer and go figure, a lovely hurricane decides to come in a ruin everything. Sheesh Irene, couldn't you wait another two weeks? Forget about the baseball game I was supposed to go to in Philly with my boy and his fam. All thoughts about going to the beach on Sunday...peace out. And any running that I was planning on doing to train for my second half marathon, not happening. I'm pretty sure its going to be a miserable weekend. I'm thinking some shopping will make it all better though. I need to buy a new computer, so I'll definitely be making a trip over to Apple on Saturday before the storm strikes. Other than that, movie marathon weekend begins NOW as soon as I get home from work. Stay dry East Coasters!

Happiness for the last week...

-my new desk is starting to look like home-
-finally got to try beanas mexican restaurant!-

Splurge: Yves Saint Laurent

Obsession of the week...this super gorg YSL gold cuff. Seriously. TO.DIE.FOR. I need it, I want it, I've got to have it. Think about how amazing it would look over the sleeve of this top I saw in the new Express catalog yesterday, paired with this skirt that I'm slightly craving from Forever21. Pure bliss in my eyes. Now that I've got the outfit planned, I have to find a way to get my hands on the cuff...dear Susan Miller, is there a ton of money in my future? Please tell me yes.

Soul Cycle

Working at Fitness has its perks...like being introduced to SoulCycle. I've been addicted to the madness for a few months now, and I have to be 100% honest with you...it is one of the best workouts EVER! When people ask me what SoulCycle is, I explain it like this--its like taking a spin class in a club. The lights are off, candles are lit, the music is insanely awesome, and you sweat your ass off (seriously, you've never sweat until you've taken MB's class at the Union Square location). It is very hard to not become addicted....practically a cult (but a good one of course!).

Workout aside, the atmosphere is addicting. Everyone is excited to be there and the energy starts pumping from the moment you walk through the doors. The space is super clean (bikes, bathrooms, and locker rooms included), they have all the amenities you could ever ask for (blow dryers and hairspray in the bathroom, extra towels and water bottles, rental spin shoes, and my favorite...gum for after class), and an awesome clothing line that becomes just as addicting (I recently got this).

If you are in NYC and need a kickass workout SoulCycle is your place. I promise, you WON'T be disappointed. And guess what LA, SoulCycle is coming to you soon too :)

Stuart Weitzman + Celebs = Ovarian Cancer Charity Fabulousness

Stuart Weitzman teamed up with some awesome young Hollywood starlets to raise money for ovarian cancer. The select styles will be available in September on stuartweitzman.com and also in Weitzman's flagship stores in New York, Beverly Hills, and Chicago. All of the proceeds will be donated to the Folkman Institute in Boston. Straight fabulousness...

Wine Me Up

I recently found these super cute wine totes on the Map Totes website. If you aren't familiar check out Map Totes. They're canvas bags that have different key points of a specific city printed on them. I've seen them all over the place and think they are really cute (although they are not quite my style), but I am totally obsessing over the little wine bags. How perfect to wrap a bottle of wine in for a gift instead of a standard gift bag? Would love to get one of these to take to BYOB restaurants with my boy...instead of the brown paper bag we took ours in the last time. Eek...

Friday Happiness

taken from here

Happy weekend everybody! I've been lucky enough to have a 4-day weekend, due to the big move that my office is making. We have left the offices at 375 Lex and are moving to a brand new space on 3rd Ave. Even though my commute is a little further now, I am really looking forward to my brand spankin' new desk/cube. I spent yesterday shopping for new supplies (I seriously miss back-to-school shopping) and new picture frames to decorate my space with. I'm such a nerd! Today, my plans are to relax, maybe do a little shopping (there are two pairs of shoes that I want for the fall!), and I'm going to see my boy later on tonight when he gets home from work (btw, he's the new Athletic Trainer at New Milford High School here in Jersey!...wooo!). This weekend will probably be pretty chill as well. Hopefully the weather will lighten up and I'll be able to squeeze a little beach time in on Sunday. Fingers crossed! Enjoy whatever plans you have for this weekend! xx

Happiness from this week...

Minnie Rose

The Minnie Rose Resort 2012 look book landed in my inbox the other day and with all of the ugly rain that NYC has been getting, it was definitely a bright surprise. All of the sweaters look so cozy and after tweeting the other morning (follow me on twitter if you don't already @marlahorenbein) how I wished a pillow, a blanket and a sweatshirt would be on my desk when I got to the office...this totally nailed my thoughts exactly. I love all of the bright colors and those striped dresses are so cute. What do you think?

Seeing Spots

I love this Mink Pink top from Nasty Gal. I think it's super easy and light, and is a great day-to-night piece. I especially love the photo shoot Nasty Gal did. How beautiful is that model? And her red Dolce Vita boots? I die.

Splurge: Jimmy Choo

I've decided to start a new series, where once a week, I'll blog about something that I am obsessing over. I figured I would start the series off right with a serious splurge item: this Jimmy Choo iPad case. Honestly, what's not to love? It is sexy, cool, sophisticated, and fun all in the same. The price tag on this puppy: $795. No joke. I guess that's why I love it so much. Now all I need is to get myself an iPad. Then spending $795 wouldn't seem so ludicrous....okay maybe a little.

Cellular

According to some of my friends who have iPhones, I need to join the rest of the world and ditch my Blackberry. As sad as I will be to say goodbye to BBM, I am very excited for the new iPhone for Verizon to come out so that I can make the switch. Everything just seems better with an iPhone--please correct me if I am wrong.

Because I am a habitual cellphone dropper, I am definitely going to have to buy my iPhone a case, so why not go all out? I've spotted these really cool Dannijo cases and am becoming slightly obsessed (I don't even have the phone yet...this is a problem.)

Friday Happiness

taken from here

I had a feeling this week would be like this. After a busy but amazing week out in LA, I'm back in the city working like crazy. The last few nights have been late ones between working in the office and trying to get home (unfortunately, the trains here in NYC aren't working so well....this means 1/2 trips to work turn into 3...so much fun). Needless to say, I am happy to have the weekend here. Hopefully hitting the beach tomorrow and enjoying one of the last few weekends of summer. What's on your weekend agenda?

Happiness from this week...

Jet Setting: Los Angeles

California dreamin'. That's kinda how I'm feeling now that I'm back in the crazy, hectic city that is New York. LA was amazing, specifically Santa Monica where I stayed, and I loved every second of it. Opening my window every morning to the scenic picture of the Pacific ocean was a dream come true. As much as I am a jaded city girl, the beach is where I think I am supposed to be. So calm and relaxing, and so ABSOLUTELY beautifully breathtaking. Take me back now!

I was out in LA LA land for work...we had two big shoots- one with Heather Morris from Glee (she was AMAZING. Couldn't have asked for a better day) and one with Allison Sweeney, the host of the Biggest Loser. We got some amazing shots of Heather-she'll be on out October cover!- and I just saw the selects that we are going to be running...all I can say is H-O-T. Can't wait for the issue to hit news stands next month!

Here are some of my favorite pics from my trip. Looking at these make me sad....I want to go back!
